A Year in Books

Hello friends! Happy new year! It feels like 2020 flew by in a blink of an eye. It has been a tough year for all but guess what? We survived! Here is to 2021 being a year filled with success, love, happiness and peace.

Here is my wrap up of 2020! Let’s take a look at how I did in my 2020 reading challenge, my favourites books of 2020 and my worst reads!

These were my goals:

  1. Start and complete 5 new series that has been on your TBR for a long time
  2. Read a book from a genre you rarely read
  3. Listen to an audiobook (my first!)
  4. Reread a favourite series
  5. Finish 5 book series that you have already started
  6. Read a book recommended by a friend

A series that has been on my TBR since forever:

I read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, which is a new favourite of mine! I was absolutely mesmerized by the world, the writing and characters. Why it took me so long to read this series, I do not know!

Series I’ve started and need to finish: I started 3 other series that I have not finished yet. These are The Remnant Chronicles, Stalking Jack the Ripper and Percy Jackson!

A new genre: I read Percy Jackson, a middle grade book! I don’t ever read middle grade and surprisingly really loved this read! I also discovered historical fiction romance in the last month of 2020 and can you guess which one book? it has a show that has recently come out and everyone is obsessed! yep THE BRIDGERTONS! I loved these feel me good books! My heart is warm from reading them! I have just finished binging the show and SIMON *heart eyes x1000000* I’m swooning honestly! I was surprised, I didn’t think it would be as good as the book but I absolutely loved it, it was just as enjoyable and entertaining and I loved seeing the characters come to life on the screen.

My third goal of listening to an audio book, that did not happen but it will in 2021! I really want to see if it is for me!

Books I reread: Caraval, Ember in the Ashes, The Lunar Chronicles, A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Winner’s trilogy!

I also read a book recommended by a friend, which was my last goal and it was Get a life. Chloe Brown and I LOVED IT!

I absolutely loved every single one of these books! The characters that won and captured my heart! I loved them, I could not stop thinking about them! DoSaB is one of my new favourite series, The Damned was an incredible sequel and Addie Larue was beautiful and powerful. The Shadows between Us was addictive and The Switch warmed my heart and soul!

I loved Crescent City so much, after I finished it, I reread it again. This story just flowed, the way everything came together, the plot and the characters. This book was a rollercoaster of emotions, the murder mystery and suspense, the epic world building! Maas can do no wrong!! She is the queen of fantasy!

Although my Goodreads challenge was only 50 books, I managed to surpass and read a total of 67 books! I do believe it was because of lockdown, I read a lot the first half of the year! I had a lot of free time off work , which is always good because that means reading more! There were a lot of rereads and finishing series I’ve started. A lot of disappointment in YA fantasy and discovering that my reading tastes have changed (stay tuned on a post about this soon). Overall 2020 was a good reading year if anything! How many books did you read in 2020 and what were your favourites?!

Until next time,
