Following the events of The Beautiful, Sébastien Saint Germain is now cursed and forever changed. The treaty between the Fallen and the Brotherhood has been broken, and war between the immortals seems imminent. The price of loving Celine was costly. But Celine has also paid a high price for loving Bastien.

Still recovering from injuries sustained during a night she can’t quite remember, her dreams are troubled. And she doesn’t know she has inadvertently set into motion a chain of events that could lead to her demise and unveil a truth about herself she’s not quite ready to learn.

Forces hiding in the shadows have been patiently waiting for this moment for centuries. And just as Bastien and Celine begin to uncover the danger around them, they learn their love could tear them apart.

So excited to be on the blog tour for this book! My most anticipated sequel. Be sure to check out these lovely bloggers on their stop.

NOTE: This review may contain spoilers for The Beautiful.

If you guys read my review last year of The Beautiful, you know I absolutely adored it! After that ending, I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on The Damned.

I have longed to see the return of vampires in the world of literature. Although The Beautiful there were hints of the supernatural in the characters, a lot of things were left unanswered and there were plot holes that needed to be filled. I had a feeling though that we would get all the answers AND vampires in the sequel and I was right!! The Damned exceeded all my expectations and the world, plot and characters came together exquisitely. The writing flowed through the pages and the character
and world development was phenomenal.

Following the events of The Beautiful, Celine is battling through trauma, nightmares and uncovering the truth of her missing memories. I absolutely loved Celine in the first book and she is even more fearless and determined in this book. She is unapologetic, independent and strong minded. I love that she will say her truth and what she feels despite society’s view of women. Sebastien is now one of the Fallen. I loved seeing Bastien’s struggle with morality as he tries to accept his new way of life. I enjoyed getting to know Bastien’s emotions in this period of his life and seeing his darkest inner thoughts. This is what I am here for!!!!

Unlike The Beautiful, which only subtly hinted the supernatural, this book explored many supernatural creatures: vampires, werewolves and surprisingly fae. I was not expecting all these different creatures but I simply adored the way Ahdieh’s weaved this lush world. The world was dark, full of action, murder and forbidden romance.

I absolutely loved the diverse cast of characters. This may have been my favourite part of the book. Getting to know the side characters and seeing a glimpse of their past and background. We got a lot more perspectives, the members of The Court of Lions were merely the shadows of Sebastien in The Beautiful however in this sequel, they really came to life. I felt emotionally connected and invested as their characters, backstories and race was explored. I really loved the issues that the author addressed in the pages, Ahdieh does not just focus on fashion, food and the glamours of society. Ahdieh also sheds light on racism in the 19th century and does not shy away from showing the slavery and racism that was still present in society.

The Damned was unputdownable. The world building, the characters and the thrilling romance. Renee Ahdieh’s words were addictive, every word weaved together to create an enchanting world. The story is dark, passionate and rich. This book tugs at your heart and gives you chills in your stomach. The world building was  compelling and rich. The forbidden romance gave me all feels. I NEED MORE!

The world was lush and atmospheric. It was fast paced and I loved seeing how dark and mysterious New Orleans was. It gave me chills! So many twists and turns I was not expecting! One after the other, so many shocking things happened at the end. The plot twists left me gobsmacked and awestruck. Unlike the first book, we got so much more vampire action, which my vampire loving heart loved! The only issue I had was the ending, which felt a bit rushed and not detailed enough. I felt like everything just happened and it was done. I wish we got a bit more as I felt like something was missing!

                         RATING: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Overall , this sequel was enchanting and you are not ready! I can’t stop thinking about it! For those who didn’t really enjoy The Beautiful and you’re unsure about reading the sequel, let me tell you!! Read this book, it is not one to be missed!

Thank you so much to Hodder & Stoughton for sending me a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
