In 1872, New Orleans is a city ruled by the dead. But to seventeen-year-old Celine Rousseau, New Orleans provides her a refuge after she’s forced to flee her life as a dressmaker in Paris. Taken in by the sisters of the Ursuline convent along with six other girls, Celine quickly becomes enamored with the vibrant city from the music to the food to the soirées and—especially—to the danger. She soon becomes embroiled in the city’s glitzy underworld, known as Le Cour des Lions, after catching the eye of the group’s leader, the enigmatic Sèbastien Saint Germain. When the body of one of the girls from the convent is found in the lair of Le Cour des Lions, Celine battles her attraction to him and suspicions about Sèbastien’s guilt along with the shame of her own horrible secret.
When more bodies are discovered, each crime more gruesome than the last, Celine and New Orleans become gripped by the terror of a serial killer on the loose—one Celine is sure has set her in his sights . . . and who may even be the young man who has stolen her heart. As the murders continue to go unsolved, Celine takes matters into her own hands and soon uncovers something even more shocking: an age-old feud from the darkest creatures of the underworld reveals a truth about Celine she always suspected simmered just beneath the surface.
VAMPIRES ARE BACK…
It has been nearly two months since I read this book, I still can’t stop thinking about it. Sebastien, Celine, the romance, the mystery and the plot twists. The writing was addictive, Ahdieh’s writing flowed through the pages and I never wanted the story to end. I never wanted to leave this world, this alluring and lush world of vampires and sexy forbidden romance. The vivid and intoxicating details of New Orleans reminded me of my days watching The vampire diaries and The Originals, swooning over Klaus…
The Beautiful has been on my radar for a while, as soon as I heard VAMPIRES, I was dying to get my hands on it. I absolutely love vampires, my first YA love was Twilight, but sadly there hasn’t been vampire books in the book market for a while. The instant I saw Renee Ahdieh is publishing a vampire book, I WAS READY!
The story follows Celine, a woman from Paris who journeys to New Orleans looking for a fresh start. She lives in a convent with other girls and they all have their duties until someone comes to ask their hand for marriage. Wandering and fascinated by New Orleans, She soon catches the attention of the Cour des Lions and its mysterious leader, Sebastien Saint Germain. I absolutely loved Celine’s character. She is head strong and she has a fierceness, which resonates through the book. Lets talk about Sebastien Saint Germain because he is everything. He’s mysterious, swoon worthy and has a past, you know how we like our fictional male characters. Throughout the story, we start to unravel his character. His character development was amazing and I bet there is still so much to come in the next book!
The romance gave me all the feels!! I WILL DIE FOR BASTIEN, god I just love him so much and Celine. The hate to love romance was thrilling. Their instant dislike killed me and the slow development of their romance gave me all the feels. It was a slow and intense romance, my absolutely favourite kind.
There is a dark and mystic vibe in New Orleans and it is perfect setting for a murder mystery. I was honestly hooked on the suspense, I could not put the book down like I had to know what was happening, I feel like there was that foreshadowing and the suspense and tension built in every chapter, which kept me at the edge of my seat. The only thing I wish was more vampires. Yes there were hints of the supernatural but the way it ended, I have a feeling the next book, we will be getting all the vampires!!!! The author really spun the story with twists, I still haven’t processed what happened and THAT ENDING!!!!!!!
This book is not one to be missed, out today so make sure you grab your copies! I adored The Wrath and The Dawn, even though I still haven’t read The Rose and The Dagger, with this book Renee Ahdieh has become one of my favourite authors! ALSO we just got a cover reveal for the sequel, THE DAMNED! I need it to be June 2020 now! Look at the beauty of this cover!
Thank you to the publisher for kindly sending me a copy of The Beautiful. All opinions are my own.
