Goodreads synopsis: here

For generations, the Seven Prophets guided humanity. Using their visions of the future, they ended wars and united nations―until the day, one hundred years ago, when the Prophets disappeared.

All they left behind was one final, secret prophecy, foretelling an Age of Darkness and the birth of a new Prophet who could be the world’s salvation . . . or the cause of its destruction. As chaos takes hold, five souls are set on a collision course:

A prince exiled from his kingdom.
A ruthless killer known as the Pale Hand.
A once-faithful leader torn between his duty and his heart.
A reckless gambler with the power to find anything or anyone.
And a dying girl on the verge of giving up.

One of them―or all of them―could break the world. Will they be savior or destroyer?

My first question is how is this a debut novel because it was freaking mind blowing and I am desperate for more. This book is a masterpiece, an epic fantasy that is a MUST read for fantasy lovers. This book went straight to my 2019 favourites list.

Full of action, plot twists and magic. The story is formed of multiple POVs: Ephyra, Beru, Anton, Jude, and Hassan are all the main characters and all have a role in The Age of Darkness. Even though they’re five main characters, there are important side characters too and you learn about their backstories too. The characters were deep and flawed and they broke your heart. The writing was amazing and the multiple POV format was definitely done right because I never got bored once. It was full of suspense, every page left you gasping for more. A real page turner that was enthralling.  It is not always easy writing multiple POVs and connecting the characters. Sometimes it drags on and the reader gets bored wanting to skip through to the end but there was none of that in this book. Each character was unique and had a story to tell,  I could not get enough. The characters came together and built up the climax of the story, making your heart pound until the end. I was constantly tabbing the pages, the action and tension making me breathless!

I have a weakness for The Chosen One kind of story and unlikely alliances forming to defeat an evil. This was a dark, rich and enchanting story, there was a diverse cast and fantastic character development and world building. The story was vivid, detailed, I could really imagine the City of Faith. I loved the twists and mystery, it really surprised me with the plot twists and kept me guessing throughout the book. I was gripped to my seat until the end. OH THE ENDING! WHAT WAS THAT ENDING! I NEED MORE. I NEED IT. WHY!?!!?

                   RATING: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
