Goodreads synopsis: here

Maia Tamarin dreams of becoming the greatest tailor in the land, but as a girl, the best she can hope for is to marry well. When a royal messenger summons her ailing father, once a tailor of renown, to court, Maia poses as a boy and takes his place. She knows her life is forfeit if her secret is discovered, but she’ll take that risk to achieve her dream and save her family from ruin. There’s just one catch: Maia is one of twelve tailors vying for the job.

Backstabbing and lies run rampant as the tailors compete in challenges to prove their artistry and skill. Maia’s task is further complicated when she draws the attention of the court magician, Edan, whose piercing eyes seem to see straight through her disguise.

And nothing could have prepared her for the final challenge: to sew three magic gowns for the emperor’s reluctant bride-to-be, from the laughter of the sun, the tears of the moon, and the blood of stars. With this impossible task before her, she embarks on a journey to the far reaches of the kingdom, seeking the sun, the moon, and the stars, and finding more than she ever could have imagined.

“Seize the wind”, I whispered. “Don’t be the kite that never flies”.

Spin the dawn is an incredible book! This world swept me off my feet and I was completely engrossed until the end! The way the author spins the words, so addicting, you don’t want to stop reading, the author truly traps you with the vivid and enchanting details of the story. Spin the Dawn was so fast paced, full of action and it never slowed , I never felt like it was dragging. The words flowed within the pages and I was absolutely mesmerized.

I loved the plot. It was a unique spin of Mulan. The story follows Maia who has endured much suffering due to the war. It has left her family broken but when the Emperor summons for her father, a well known Tailor, she takes his place as her chance to bring hope to her family and fulfill her dreams of becoming the Imperial Tailor, despite her gender. She is shocked when it is revealed that she is not the only one competing for this position and the fight for the role begins.

I was really hooked on Maia’s journey throughout the book. The demons and struggles she faced, how it strengthened her. The world and character building was fantastic, woven with magic and suspense that made you want to never leave this world. The first half of the book went so fast, I didn’t expect the trials to be finished so quickly but I loved it. I was hooked on the action, political intrigue and the magic. Let me not forget Edan’s wit and character. I absolutely adored his character. I didn’t connect easily with the rest of the characters, it took me a while to but as I read, my heart warmed with love for Edan and Maia’s fierceness. I can’t wait to see how Edan and Maia’s story continue. I also was really intrigued by lady Sarnai’s character and I hope we learn more about her.

Maia’s quest in the second half of the book was captivating and I was addicted. I was at the edge of my seat , heart pounding and I couldn’t stop reading until the end. The ending left me gasping for more.
