Hi guys, I think I’m probably the last person to do my 2018 favourites. I’m sorry the past 2 weeks have been so hectic, I have my driving exam coming up and I’ve been so stressed! I think I can only relax once it’s over and done with.
Here are my 2018 favourites, that I have been drafting since the beginning of 2019!
An ember in the ashes by Sabaa Tahir
These two books are AMAZING! I was hooked from the beginning and I couldn’t stop reading. I love the unique world and plot, the characters and Sabaa Tahir’s magical writing. I love the main characters, Elias and Lai. The plot twist left me dumbfounded and I want to reread these two again and tab before I read A reaper at the gates because I loved it SO much!!!! I’m really sad about the cover change, I mean the new covers are gorgeous but I got the old editions of the first 2 books and it won’t match with the rest of the books sadly!
The wrath and the dawn by Renée Ahdieh
This book was wow! I think it’s so underrated! The writing enthralled me until the end. I could feel everything between the characters, I was lost in the pages of Ahdieh’s writing. The book was fast paced and I read it in literally one sitting! Shahrzad was an intriguing character with her wit and fearlessness. I loved the romance, it was soft, sweet and just not enough, I need more Shahrzad and Khalid… oh Khalid *billion heart eyes* . The development of the characters and the romance was just beautiful. “This quote
“What are you doing to me, you plague of a girl?” he whispered.
“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.
“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.”
I can not wait to read The rose and the dagger, the last book in this duology. I do have a question for anyone who has read it, in which order shall I read the short stories AND should I read it after or before TRATD?
3. Grace and fury by Tracy Banghart
I received this book in my Fairyloot June 2018 box and I loved it!! The writing hooked me from the beginning. This book is set in a world where women have no rights. I loved the relationship between the sisters, their unconditional love for each other. I loved the plot twist and how everything they expected completely changed right before their eyes. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Queen of ruin!
4. The night circus by Erin Morgenstern
This book was brilliant. Morgenstern’s writing is enchanting, the characters are so unique. Celia and Marco were my favourites, and I love how their lives connected from the beginning and throughout the story. Everything was described so intensely. I can’t believe I only read this book, I’ve had it on my TBR for so long! I have not read a book like this before and I absolutely recommend it to everyone!
5. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
I understand the hype, this book is amazing! It was fast paced, light and full of action. I love the characters, Iseult and Safi and most of all a blood monk called Aeduan. I am looking forward to reading the sequel, I hope there is lots of Aeduan!
If you could choose only one book from your 2018 favourites list, what would it be?!
Until next time, Asmaa
