“Even in the Future the Story Begins with Once Upon a Time.”

Fairy tale retellings, who doesn’t love one of those? Well a good one of course!

There are many, many, many retellings for Cinderella but this is by far the most uniquest of them all. It almost was completely different from the original Cinderella story. SO many differences but you could spot the few similarities once in a while.

I was completely sucked in from the beginning. The characters, the androids, everything about this story made me intrigued from the start. Truth be told I was in a slump before this but Cinder looked like a light read, something I need to get me out of my slump and let me tell you, it was exactly what I needed. Cinder was a light, fast paced read that didn’t include so much world or character building. It is the perfect read to get anyone out of their slump.

Cinderella as a cyborg is absolutely genius. I so admire Marissa Meyers for coming up with that. I loved Cinder, her character was so unique, she’s so caring, and her love for her step sister was really heartwarming as she tried to do everything she could for Peony. Cinder is so loveable and she made me laugh a couple of times and cry too.

“I don’t know. I don’t actually remember anything from before the surgery.”
His eyebrows rose, his blue eyes sucking in all the light of the room. “The cybernetic operation?”
“No, the sex change.”
The doctor’s smile faltered.
“I’m joking.”

Queen Levana- oh what a beautiful name for a not so beautiful person. To be fair, I was really interested by her and the Lunars. Her dislike for mirrors. It was very new. I wanted to learn more about her but as I started to read more, I became known to her ugly personality and evilness (is that a word?) but one of the things I want to know is how she became like this, why is she so horrible and unsympathetic? I believe theres a story based on her called Fairest! can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Oh my god can we talk about Iko? I LOVE LOVE LOVE HER. SHE IS ME. she’s so cute and bubbly and ah where can I find an android like her?

“Cinder twisted up her lips. “Do you think it could have a virus?”
“Maybe her programming was overwhelmed by Prince Kai’s uncanny hotness.”
“Prince Kai! Check my fan, I think I’m overheating.”

ME TOO IKO ME TOO.

The plot twist was quite obvious, which disappointed me. I love the feeling of a shocking twist to a story but this one was way too obvious. I kind of  thought I was a genius for figuring it out but I’m pretty sure everyone did too.

Oh sweet chocolate, the romance. It was so cute and so sweet, I CANT EVEN DEAL.  Another thing that made me love this story: NO INSTA LOVE. but obviously Kai and Cinder’s attraction towards each other was shown throughout the story and ahhhhhhh

but the way Cinder ended made me cry so much.

HOW CAN MARISSA MEYERS DO THAT TO MY POOR HEART?

I wanted to scream!!!!!!!

RATING: 5/5

Because this story, just brilliant. GO READ IT NOW. This is a  very new and remarkable retelling, which blew me away. It had everything you would want in a YA novel. A tint of humour, a swoon worthy prince and a Cinderella cyborg. God I cannot wait to continue with the rest of the series and see what it holds. I’m so excited to meet the new characters and I know Marissa Meyers will do a beautiful job and leave me mind blown once again!
