“Arin smiled. It was a true smile, which let her know that all the others he had given her were not.”

I don’t know where to start, ok I do.

THE FEELS. GUYS THE FEELS

This was me throughout the book:

Oh good lord, I cant even express how much I loved this book. It blew me away completely. At first from the blurb, you’d think it’s the typical cliché story of a high-ranking figure falling for a slave. BUT IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT. It was so intense and it exceeded my expectations. I honestly don’t even know where to begin. Word cannot even convey how much I enjoyed this read.

Firstly the characters. I was completely intrigued by them. Arin was quite mysterious at first and his character would make you want to continue reading. Although the plotline was sort of obvious in a way, it was also unexpected. That sounds weird but I was just caught completely off guard even though I predicted something like that would happen.

I absolutely loved Kestrel. She’s bloody amazing with her logical thinking. I believe this is what made her so different from other heroines. She’s more of a thinker than a fighter, showing that you don’t always have to be a fighter to win. For example the duel between her and that guy, god I forgot his name, she used cunning techniques to win. It was rather entertaining to watch as the blood drained from her opponents face. Also her passion for music is completely inspiring. She isn’t afraid to show people what she loves despite her father’s warnings and distaste towards her choices.

OKAY IM GOING TO MOVE TO WHAT I LOVED MOSTLY ABOUT THIS BOOK AND WHAT MADE MY HEART RACE.

Kestrel and Arin’s relationship. OH GOD THE FEELS.

It isn’t the usual romance. It was far too intense and not that sort of love that grows overnight. Far from it in fact. It happens slowly, not right away, You don’t even notice it, who am I kidding? YOU DO. THERE ARE THOSE TINY MOMENTS WERE YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO BREATHE.

My soul is yours. You know that it is”  My heart aches.

Marie Rutkoski’s writing style. Perfection. Honestly it was such a light read, I read it in one sitting. It didn’t drag on, the chapters were the right size and I loved that it had both Arin and Kestrel’s point of view. To conclude I’m ready to devour the next book.

God the ending

The ending broke my heart. I didn’t even know what to do. I started freaking out, calling my best friend and telling her to drop everything and read this book so we can cry together. I was honestly speechless.

RATING: 5/5

I really do believe everyone should read this. If you haven’t read it yet then you are really missing out on one hell of a beautiful read!

So my first review is up, if anyone has read this fabulous book, I hope you loved it as much as I did and if you still haven’t, what are you waiting for?
